How to Look After Your Wrapped Car (Cleaning & Maintenance Tips)

Investing in a car wrap is one of the best ways to transform the look of your vehicle, protect your original paintwork, and make a bold visual statement. Whether you’ve opted for a full colour change, a commercial van wrap, or a sleek matte black finish, proper care is key to keeping your wrap looking its best for years to come.

At Titan Tinting & Wraps, we’re Peterborough’s go-to experts for professional car wraps, and we know what it takes to maintain that fresh, head-turning finish. Here’s our guide on how to clean and care for your wrapped vehicle.

1. Hand Washing Is Best

While it might be tempting to run your wrapped car through a car wash, we always recommend hand washing for the safest, longest-lasting results.

Here’s how to do it properly:

  • Use a pH-neutral car shampoo

  • Wash using a soft sponge or microfibre mitt

  • Rinse thoroughly with clean water

  • Dry with a microfibre towel to avoid water spots

Avoid using high-pressure washers directly on edges or seams, as this can lift the vinyl over time.

2. Skip the Wax – Use Vinyl-Safe Products Instead

Traditional waxes and polishes designed for paintwork may not be suitable for vehicle wraps. Instead, choose products specifically made for vinyl finishes. These will enhance the appearance and protect against UV damage without affecting the wrap adhesive.

Pro tip: Matte and satin wraps should never be waxed, as this can cause streaking or unwanted shine.

3. Watch Out for Bird Droppings and Tree Sap

Both bird droppings and tree sap are highly acidic and can stain or damage vinyl if left untreated. If you spot any, remove them as soon as possible using:

  • Warm water and a soft cloth

  • A vinyl-safe cleaner for stubborn spots

Avoid scrubbing too hard – patience and gentle pressure are key.

4. Keep It Covered When You Can

Although high-quality wraps are made to withstand the elements, long-term exposure to direct sunlight and harsh weather can shorten their lifespan.

If possible, park in a garage, under a carport, or use a breathable car cover to help preserve the colour and prevent fading – especially with gloss or chrome finishes.

5. Don’t Ignore the Details

Here are a few more simple things you can do to protect your investment:

  • Avoid automatic car washes with brushes

  • Be careful with petrol spills – wipe off immediately

  • Don’t use abrasive pads or harsh chemicals

  • Clean your wrapped vehicle regularly (at least every 2–3 weeks)
